They are often overlooked, simple solutions right under our feet. One such is decorating with rugs in your home. They not only add warmth and style to your living space but can also help you save on energy costs.

1. Consider cosy up with insulation and comfort

Rugs are excellent insulators, especially when placed over hard, cold surfaces like tile or hardwood floors. They act as a barrier against the loss of heat through the floor, keeping your home warmer during the winter months. This extra layer means your heating system won’t have to work as hard, ultimately reducing your energy consumption and bills.

2. Give the rug a little spin

To maximise your energy savings, consider rotating them seasonally. During the colder months, use thicker, heavier rugs to provide extra insulation. In the summer, switch to a thinner option or even remove the rug altogether in rooms that receive direct sunlight. This simple adjustment can help maintain a comfortable temperature indoors without relying heavily on heating or cooling systems.

3. Space out with comfy rugs

Strategically placing a rug in high-traffic areas can reduce the need for heating or cooling the entire house. Focus on rooms where your family spends most of their time, such as the living room or bedrooms. By keeping these spaces comfortably warm or cool, you can lower energy consumption in less-used areas of your home.

5. Use rugs as both decor and energy-saving

By incorporating rugs as a part of your design, you’ll be more inclined to use them strategically to enhance both comfort and energy efficiency. This way, you won’t compromise style for savings.
