A round rug’s size is measured by diameter rather than length and width. At Rugvista, that runs from small (under Ø160 cm) through medium (Ø160–229 cm) and large (Ø230–349 cm). As a rough guide, Ø150 cm suits a smaller room or reading corner, Ø200 cm is enough for a coffee table with sofa legs resting on the edge, and larger living rooms or open-plan spaces suit Ø240 cm and up.

Our round rugs come in the same extensive range as our rectangular styles: single-coloured pieces in shades like beige, grey, white and blue, through to bolder multicoloured, geometric and floral designs. As a rough rule, a single muted colour lets a rug recede into the background, while a patterned or multicoloured round rug creates more of a focal point and hides everyday marks more easily.

It depends on the room.

• Entryway or hallway: A small-to-medium round hallway rug works well right in front of the door, or in a widened landing where a rectangular shape wouldn’t fit as naturally.
• Living room: Centre a round living room rug under the coffee table with the front legs of your sofa and chairs resting on the edge, or use it to mark out a seating area within an open-plan room.
• Dining room: A round dining room rug should sit under a round table with enough room for chairs to be pulled out without catching the edge.
• Bedroom: A round rug for the bedroom usually suits a smaller spot – beside the bed, under a bedside table, or under a reading chair or dressing table – rather than covering the whole floor.
• Outdoor: On a patio or decking, a round outdoor rug works well under a table or in front of a bench or lounger.

Add roughly 60–70 cm to your table’s diameter so the chairs stay on the rug when pulled out. A four-seat round table (around 110–120 cm across) typically pairs with a Ø200 cm round rug, while a larger six-seat table suits Ø240 cm or above. A flatweave or low-pile round rug is the practical choice here, as chairs slide over it easily and spills are simpler to clean.

Round wool rugs are the most versatile – durable, warm and naturally stain-resistant. Jute round rugs bring natural texture and suit lower-traffic spaces. Washable round rugs – often made from cotton or synthetic materials – are the easiest to maintain, making them a good match for kitchens, bathrooms and kids’ rooms.

It depends on the space. A round rug has no corners to work around, so it suits round tables, curved furniture, awkward corners, bay windows or a narrow hallway where a rectangular shape would feel too rigid. A rectangular rug still fits a squared-off living room or under a rectangular dining table more efficiently. If your furniture and floor plan are mostly straight lines, a rectangular rug is usually the easier fit.
