Why choose a small rug for a living room?

Small rugs bring a number of benefits, without overwhelming the space. Choose a small living room rug to:

• Define a specific seating or activity area
• Add warmth and softness to hardwood or tiled floors
• Layer with larger rugs for a designer look
• Have a rug that’s easy to move, clean, and switch with seasonal décor

What size rug is best for a small living room?

For small living rooms, rug sizes like 60×90 cm and 140x200cm often work best. Choose a rug that fits under the coffee table and anchors the main furniture pieces without covering the entire floor.

How do I choose the right rug shape for a small living room?

Choose a shape based on the layout of your furniture and the vibe you want to create. Small rectangular living room rugs are a popular choice while small round rugs for living rooms are often used to create a sense of openness and flow in tight spaces.

Should a small living room rug go under the sofa or just in front of it?

In a small living room, it’s common for the rug to sit just in front of the sofa or with the front legs of the furniture on the rug. This visually connects the pieces while keeping proportions balanced.

Can I layer a small living room rug over a larger one?

Absolutely. Layering a small living room rug over a large living room rug can add texture and style. This technique works especially well to define a seating zone within an open-plan layout.
