Rugs 400 x 500 cm: Shop XXL rugs online

A 400 x 500 cm rug — approx 13′ x 16’4″ — is one of the largest ready-made rug sizes available, designed for spaces where most standard rugs simply won’t do. This size suits large open-plan living and dining areas, expansive master bedrooms and wide entrance halls. It works particularly well placed across an entire seating arrangement with all sofa legs fully on the rug, beneath a large dining table seating eight or more or centred in a grand bedroom with generous borders showing on all sides.

Choosing a 400 x 500 cm rug

A 400 x 500 rug does a specific job: it covers a whole zone – a full seating group, a large dining table, or the run of floor around a super-king bed – in one piece, rather than piecing together smaller rugs with seams and gaps of bare floor between them. That’s especially useful in open-plan rooms, where a single 400 x 500 cm rug can anchor the entire living or dining area and hold the layout together in a way two smaller rugs won’t.

Frequently asked questions

A 400 x 500 cm rug measures approximately 13’1″ x 16’5″ and covers 20 m² of floor. It’s the largest ready-made size in our range, one step up from 300 x 400 cm, and it’s designed for rooms where a standard extra large rug would still leave too much bare floor.

Look for a room of roughly 5 x 6 m or larger – a big open-plan living and dining space, a large family room, or a substantial primary bedroom. In an open-plan layout, a rug this size works well for defining one full zone, such as the seating area, rather than the whole floor.

It can be, and it’s worth checking before you buy. If your room is smaller than around 5 x 6 m, or the rug would leave less than 30–40 cm of bare floor around the edges, a 300 x 400 cm or 300 x 500 cm rug will usually sit better and still cover a full seating group or dining table.

This size comfortably fits an 8–10 seat table, including large extending tables opened to their full length. Allow at least 60–70 cm of rug beyond the table edge on each side, so every chair stays on the rug when pulled out.

Yes – a 400 x 500 rug suits a super-king bed with room to spare, leaving a wide, soft border on every side so you step onto rug rather than floor. It also works well laid across an entire primary bedroom, under the bed and any seating or storage furniture nearby
