Originating from Afghanistan, this piece showcases a sophisticated design that adds character to any room. Its floral patterns are thoughtfully arranged to create a balanced, harmonious look that complements both traditional and modern interior styles.

With its durable construction, this rug is built to stand the test of time while maintaining its beauty. The quality of the Wool and the careful hand-knotted process ensure it remains a reliable and stylish focal point in your home for years to come.

The Ziegler Ariana tradition is rooted in the late 19th-century collaboration between the Swiss firm Ziegler & Co. and artisans in the Middle East. Originally designed to cater to Western tastes, these rugs were created to offer a more muted and refined take on traditional patterns, prioritising elegance and decorative versatility.

The term Ariana refers to the historical name for the region that encompasses modern-day Afghanistan. Rugs from this tradition are celebrated for their ability to blend historical design motifs with a sophisticated colour palette, often utilising natural dyes to achieve soft, earthy, and deep tones that feel both classic and contemporary.

Visually, these rugs are characterised by large-scale floral and vine motifs that flow across the field in an open, airy composition. Unlike more densely packed traditional designs, the Ziegler style emphasises the space between elements, allowing the decorative borders and the central floral arrangements to breathe and stand out clearly.

Today, these rugs are highly sought after by collectors and homeowners alike for their blend of historical prestige and modern aesthetic appeal. Owning an authentic Ziegler Ariana is a testament to the enduring value of hand-crafted skill and the rich, cross-cultural history of rug weaving that continues to connect the past to the present.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to its creation. By tying each individual knot by hand, the weavers achieve a level of precision and pattern clarity that simply cannot be replicated by machines.

The density of the construction is evidenced by the weight of 33.3 kg across its 8.13 m2 surface area. This significant weight indicates a high volume of material and a tight, robust foundation, which directly contributes to the rug's long-term durability and ability to withstand daily use.

Every inch of this piece reflects a commitment to traditional craft. The time-intensive nature of the hand-knotting process ensures that the pile remains dense and resilient, providing a high-quality finish that honours centuries of weaving heritage.

The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean.
