Zanjan rugs originate from the historic city of Zanjan in the northwestern part of the Middle East. This region has long been a hub for nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes who have preserved their unique weaving traditions for generations, blending regional aesthetics with the functional needs of their lifestyle.

The craft of these rugs is rooted in the use of traditional hand-knotting techniques that ensure longevity and distinct texture. These methods allow for the creation of durable, resilient pieces that are designed to withstand the wear of daily life while maintaining their visual appeal.

The hallmark of a Zanjan rug is its powerful geometric design language. These pieces often feature bold, stylized medallions and angular motifs that are deeply symbolic, often referencing the natural world or ancestral heritage. The interplay between the dark fields and vibrant, contrasting borders is a classic aesthetic choice that provides these rugs with their signature intensity.

Collectors value these rugs for their authenticity and the human story woven into every thread. Owning a Zanjan piece is an investment in cultural heritage, representing a level of skill and artistic intent that is increasingly rare in the modern world.

Each knot in this rug is placed by hand, a process that demands immense focus and patience from the artisan. With 90,000 knots per m2, the creation of this piece requires significant time and precision, ensuring that the geometric patterns remain sharp and the pile stays firm and resilient for years to come.

The construction quality is further highlighted by the rug’s substantial weight of 12.4 kg. This density of material is a direct result of the labour-intensive hand-knotting process, confirming the robust nature of the foundation and the generous amount of wool used to achieve its thick, plush feel.

By choosing a hand-knotted piece, you are supporting a tradition of craft that values human skill over mass production. The complexity involved in managing the tension of the weave while maintaining the integrity of the design is what grants this rug its superior durability and unique, artisanal appeal.
