Black / Dark red100 x 155 cm

Turkaman rugs originate from the nomadic tribes of Central Asia, whose weaving traditions have evolved over centuries. While these designs were historically nomadic, they have become a staple of Middle Eastern textile art, celebrated for their deep cultural roots and sophisticated aesthetic.

The craft relies on specific techniques that prioritise longevity. The use of robust wool, combined with a tight knotting structure, ensures that these pieces are as durable as they are beautiful. This construction is a hallmark of the tradition, designed to endure the rigours of tribal life while maintaining a lustrous, soft finish.

The design language of these rugs is instantly recognisable, typically featuring rows of repeating 'gul' motifs—octagonal or diamond-shaped medallions that symbolise the history and identity of the weaving tribes. The elaborate geometric borders often serve to frame these central elements, creating a sense of balance and rhythm that is highly sought after by collectors.

These rugs are valued not just for their appearance but for the skill they represent. Owning a Turkaman piece is an investment in a long-standing heritage of craftsmanship. Collectors treasure them for their enduring quality and the way they bridge the gap between ancient cultural expression and modern interior design.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and skill from the artisan. With approximately 38,750 individual knots tied by hand across its surface, the creation of this piece is a labour-intensive endeavour that ensures both structural integrity and a refined, sharp design.

The density of the construction is further evidenced by its substantial weight of 5.4 kg. This significant material investment results in a durable, robust rug that is built to withstand daily use while maintaining its shape and visual depth over time.

Because each knot is placed manually, the artisan's precision is reflected in the rug's consistent texture and longevity. This dedication to craft is what distinguishes it from mass-produced items, providing a level of quality that is only possible through traditional, time-honoured methods.
