Tabriz RoyalHand KnottedRug

Brown / BlackRoundØ 302 cm

The Tabriz tradition originates from one of the oldest carpet-weaving centres in the Middle East. Historically, Tabriz was a major hub on the Silk Road, which allowed weavers to exchange ideas, techniques, and designs with travellers from across the world, leading to a style that is both highly sophisticated and globally influenced.

While the tradition began in the Middle East, today, the finest examples of these rugs are often crafted by skilled artisans in India who have mastered these classic techniques. The term Tabriz is synonymous with technical excellence, characterised by a refined knotting structure that allows for remarkably detailed and complex patterns.

Signature design elements of a Tabriz rug often include a central medallion surrounded by dense, rhythmic floral scrolls and intricate vines. The borders are typically formal and multi-layered, framing the central field with an elegance that has defined the style for centuries.

Owning a piece from this tradition is about more than just decor; it is about connecting with a rich heritage of craftsmanship. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their blend of historical design and technical precision, making them a lasting investment in both beauty and tradition.

This rug is created through a traditional hand-knotted process, where every single knot is placed by hand. This labour-intensive method ensures superior structural integrity and a pile density that provides long-term durability and resistance to daily wear.

The construction of this piece involves a significant amount of human effort, with skilled artisans dedicating months to complete the complex pattern. The precision of this hand-knotted technique allows for the fine detailing seen in the floral motifs, which simply cannot be replicated by automated machinery.

Weighing 36.6 kg, the substantial construction of this rug is a direct result of the high-quality materials and dense knotting used throughout its creation. This weight serves as a testament to the artisan's commitment to quality, ensuring a stable, substantial rug that sits perfectly on your floor.
