Dark red / Black200 x 315 cm

Tabriz rugs hail from one of the oldest rug-weaving centres in the Middle East, a city that has served as a vital hub for art and trade for centuries. The tradition of weaving in this region is deeply intertwined with the history of the Silk Road, drawing inspiration from courtly designs, botanical motifs, and architectural patterns.

The designation 40 Raj refers to the traditional system of measuring knot density in this region, based on the number of knots per seven centimetres. This specific metric is a benchmark of quality, indicating a level of finesse that allows weavers to execute complex, curvilinear designs that would be impossible to achieve with lower-density techniques.

Signature design elements of Tabriz rugs often include a central medallion surrounded by intricate floral or arabesque patterns. The borders are typically multi-layered and highly detailed, framing the field with precision. The colour choices in this piece are classic examples of the region's ability to balance deep, bold tones with lighter, contrasting accents.

These rugs are highly sought after by collectors and homeowners alike for their blend of historical significance and technical excellence. Owning a rug from this tradition is an investment in cultural heritage, representing a level of skill that has been passed down through generations of master weavers.

Each individual knot in this rug has been placed by hand by a skilled artisan. This labour-intensive process requires immense patience and focus, ensuring that every detail of the elaborate design is captured with precision and clarity.

With a density of 360,000 knots per m2, the total knot count for this piece is approximately 2.27 million. This high level of density creates a robust, long-lasting pile that is incredibly resistant to wear, while also allowing for the sharp, intricate pattern definition seen in the final result.

The construction of this rug is further supported by the weight of 25.8 kg, which signifies a generous use of materials and a high-density foundation. This substantial weight is a testament to the effort invested in creating a product that is both physically enduring and visually refined.
