ShabarganHand KnottedRug

Brown / BlackRunner87 x 295 cm

The Shabargan style finds its roots in the long-standing weaving traditions of Northern Afghanistan, a region known for its deep connection to nomadic and semi-nomadic craft. These designs often reflect the rugged beauty of the landscape and the ancestral history of the local communities who have preserved these techniques through generations.

The term 'hand-knotted' refers to the traditional method of looping individual strands of Wool around the foundation threads. This creates a durable, high-density pile that is resistant to wear, offering a level of longevity that is highly prized by collectors and homeowners alike.

Visually, these runners are defined by a sophisticated interplay of geometric motifs and repeated decorative borders. The use of bold, earthy tones combined with intricate patterns creates a sense of movement and depth, often drawing inspiration from ancient tribal symbols that have been passed down through centuries of weaving heritage.

Owning a piece from this tradition is about more than just decor. It is an investment in human skill and cultural history. Collectors value these rugs for their ability to bring a sense of grounded authenticity and narrative to a room, serving as a reminder of the timeless human effort behind every stitch.

This runner is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense focus and patience. By tying each individual knot by hand, the weavers create a pile that is incredibly dense and resilient, ensuring the rug retains its structural integrity over time.

Given the substantial weight of 8.2 kg for its 2.56 m2 size, this runner demonstrates a dense construction that speaks to the quality of the materials and the effort invested. This density provides a firm, supportive surface that holds its shape beautifully even in high-traffic areas of your home.

The creation of this piece represents hundreds of hours of dedicated labour. The precision required to maintain consistent tension and pattern accuracy across the entire length of the runner is a testament to the skill of the weaver, resulting in a finished product that is as reliable as it is visually captivating.
