Brown / Black252 x 255 cm

Afghan rug making is deeply intertwined with the nomadic and village traditions of Central Asia, where weaving techniques have been passed down through generations. Artisans in towns like Shabargan draw on centuries-old design vocabularies, adapting ancestral motifs to reflect the stories and landscape of the region.

The construction utilizes a traditional hand-knotted technique where individual strands of 100% wool are looped and secured around the warp threads by hand. This careful method builds a dense, resilient pile that stands up to daily life while retaining a soft, natural luster.

The visual language of this tradition is defined by striking geometric patterns, traditional medallions, and decorative borders arranged with symbolic symmetry. Rich earthen tones dominate the palette, creating depth and a grounded aesthetic that anchors any room.

Owning an Afghan rug means preserving a living cultural heritage of skilled craftsmanship. Each piece represents countless hours of dedicated work by master weavers, offering enduring quality and a meaningful connection to centuries of textile art.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who tie each knot individually by hand, representing months of dedicated human labor and generational expertise.

With a total area of approximately 6.43 m2 and a knot density of 90,000 knots per m2, this piece comprises an estimated 578,000 hand-tied knots. This extraordinary density creates a firm, heavy foundation weighing 20.6 kg, ensuring the rug lies flat and maintains its structure through decades of daily use.

The considerable time investment required for this level of hand-knotting results in a remarkably durable pile and crisp, intricate details that simply cannot be replicated by machinery.
