Senneh rugs originate from the historic city of Sanandaj in the western region of the Middle East. This area has long been a hub for high-quality weaving, where tradition and artistic expression merge. The craft has evolved over centuries, drawing from deep-seated cultural narratives to produce textiles that are celebrated for their sophisticated design and technical excellence.

The term Senneh refers to a specific, highly regarded style of weaving that emphasises precision and detail. These rugs are known for their fine construction, which creates a durable and elegant pile. This technical approach allows for the intricate, often geometric or floral patterns that distinguish Senneh pieces from other regional styles, making them highly prized for their clarity of design.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their complex patterns, which often feature stylized floral motifs, intricate medallions, or fine geometric shapes. The borders are typically formal and well-defined, framing the field with grace. While traditional palettes often rely on rich, earthy tones, the unique variations in colour found in each piece highlight the creativity of the individual artisan.

Collectors value Senneh rugs not only for their beauty but for the cultural heritage they represent. Owning one is an investment in a living tradition, where the skill of the weaver is preserved in every knot. These rugs are seen as a bridge between the past and present, offering an authentic connection to a storied history of craftsmanship.

This Senneh rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense patience and precision. By individually tying each knot onto the foundation, the weavers ensure a level of durability and pattern clarity that simply cannot be achieved by machines.

With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, the creation of this piece represents hundreds of hours of dedicated labour. This high knot density is essential for achieving the intricate design work and the resilient, dense pile that defines this rug. The time invested by the weaver is directly reflected in the strength and longevity of the final product.

The 3.3 kg weight of this rug, across its 112 x 73 cm dimensions, is a testament to the quality and abundance of materials used in its construction. This substantial weight signifies a dense foundation and a high-quality pile, ensuring that the rug will remain stable and beautiful in your home for many years to come.
