Senneh rugs originate from the mountainous region of Kurdistan in the Middle East, specifically around the city of Sanandaj. This area has long been a centre for refined textile production, known for creating some of the most sophisticated and recognisable floor coverings in the region. The tradition of weaving in this area reflects a deep connection to local landscape and heritage.

The term Senneh refers to a specific, highly skilled weaving style that utilises a single-weft construction. This technique allows for a thinner, more flexible rug that is incredibly durable despite its elegant profile. This technical choice is a hallmark of the region, distinguishing these pieces from other styles and contributing to their lasting reputation for quality.

Visually, these rugs are celebrated for their intricate floral motifs and central medallions, which are often rendered with high precision. The patterns frequently incorporate stylised leaves and geometric flourishes that create a balanced, harmonious field. While the design language is rooted in tradition, the vibrant interplay of colours in this specific piece makes it a standout example of the genre.

Collectors value these rugs not only for their beauty but for the cultural history they represent. Owning a piece from this tradition is an investment in human skill and regional identity. These rugs are recognised as tangible links to a rich artistic past, prized by those who appreciate the patience and dedication required to create such enduring works of art.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense patience and precision. With a density of 250,000 knots per m2, the construction is remarkably robust, ensuring that the intricate patterns remain sharp and clear while the pile maintains its shape and resilience over time.

Creating a rug of this size, measuring 300 x 195 cm, requires hundreds of hours of focused human effort. The weight of 26.3 kg serves as a testament to the high volume of premium materials used in its construction, providing a heavy, stable foundation that lies flat and holds up to the demands of a busy home.

The combination of the high knot density and the significant material weight highlights the superior quality and labour-intensive nature of this piece. By choosing to invest in this hand-knotted work, you are supporting a time-honoured craft that prioritises long-lasting quality over mass production.
