Dark red / Red120 x 160 cm

Senneh rugs originate from the town of Sanandaj in the western part of the Middle East, a region known for its deep-rooted weaving heritage. These rugs are highly regarded for their sophistication and the distinctive way they blend traditional motifs with a refined, artistic sensibility that has evolved over generations.

The term Senneh refers to the specific style of knotting and design associated with this area. The construction typically involves a very precise approach to knotting, which creates a firm, durable foundation that allows for the creation of delicate and intricate patterns that are difficult to achieve in other styles.

Visually, these rugs are often recognised by their central medallion designs and highly detailed floral or geometric fills. The borders are usually ornate and carefully balanced, framing the central field to create a sense of harmony. The use of deep, rich colours is a hallmark of the tradition, lending the rugs an air of timeless elegance.

Collecting a Senneh rug is more than just a decor choice; it is an investment in a storied craft tradition. These pieces are valued for their durability and the incredible human effort required to create them, making them prized possessions for those who appreciate the intersection of cultural history and functional beauty.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate weeks of focused work to bring each piece to life. The process involves tying thousands of individual knots onto a foundation, a labour-intensive technique that ensures the final product is not only beautiful but remarkably durable.

With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, the precision required to maintain such detail across the entire surface is significant. This level of craftsmanship allows for the complex, defined patterns that characterise the Senneh style, creating a robust, high-quality structure that is designed to withstand daily life for many years.

The substantial weight of 7.7 kg for this 160 x 120 cm rug is a testament to the generous amount of high-quality wool used in its construction. This density adds to the rug's longevity and quality, ensuring a firm, stable foundation that lies beautifully on your floor.
