Sarough rugs hold a distinguished place in the history of Middle Eastern textile arts. Originating from the village of Sarough and the surrounding region, these rugs gained international prominence in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They are celebrated for their exceptional wool quality and the use of sophisticated, flowing floral designs that often incorporate elements of the famous Mir-i-buta motif.

The term 'Mir' often refers to a specific, highly refined style within the broader Sarough tradition, characterised by a dense, repetitive pattern of small floral sprays or the teardrop-shaped buta motif. This style requires a high degree of technical skill to maintain consistency across the entire field of the rug. The result is a harmonious, rhythmic aesthetic that is highly prized by collectors.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their rich, saturated colours and elaborate borders. While red and blue are traditional staples, the way these colours are layered and contrasted in a Sarough Mir creates a sense of depth that is hard to replicate. The use of curvilinear patterns, where scrolling vines and blossoms intertwine, showcases the mastery of the weavers in translating botanical beauty into a woven form.

Owning a Sarough Mir is a testament to the enduring appeal of traditional craft. These rugs are not just floor coverings; they are symbols of a cultural legacy that has been passed down through generations. By choosing a piece with this provenance, you are supporting a tradition of skill and artistic expression that continues to bring beauty and character to homes around the world.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense focus and patience from the artisans who create it. By looping individual strands of wool onto a sturdy cotton foundation, the weavers build the rug one knot at a time. This traditional technique is essential to achieving the dense, resilient pile that defines this piece.

Given the substantial size of 309 x 216 cm and the weight of 20 kg, this rug represents a significant investment of time and human effort. The weight serves as a clear indicator of the high material density and the robust, long-lasting construction that makes this a premium item for your home.

The dedication required to complete a rug of this complexity is reflected in every detail of its design. The precision of the hand-knotting ensures that the floral patterns are perfectly executed, resulting in a finished product that is as durable as it is beautiful. This is a piece crafted to be enjoyed for many years to come.
