PatchworkHand KnottedRug

Dark red / Red197 x 197 cm

Patchwork rugs represent a modern evolution of long-standing Middle Eastern weaving traditions. While the individual components often originate from older, hand-knotted rugs that have seen years of use, the practice of assembling them into new, cohesive designs has become a celebrated art form in its own right.

The technique involves carefully deconstructing vintage wool textiles and re-stitching them into a new layout. This process not only preserves the beauty of older weaves but also allows for a contemporary interpretation of traditional motifs, effectively bridging the gap between historical craftsmanship and modern interior design.

The visual language of these rugs is defined by the contrast and harmony between the different patches. You will often see variations in shade and texture that tell a story of the original rug's life, creating a depth of character that is impossible to achieve with new materials alone.

Owning a patchwork rug is a way of participating in a cycle of sustainability and appreciation for past work. By collecting these pieces, you are investing in a tradition that values the skill of the original weavers while embracing a forward-thinking approach to decor and design.

This rug is entirely handmade, a labour-intensive process that requires significant time and precision. Skilled artisans carefully select and assemble individual segments to ensure the final piece is both aesthetically balanced and structurally sound, reflecting a deep commitment to craft.

With a total weight of 13.6 kg, this rug demonstrates the generous use of material that defines its substantial quality. The weight is a clear indicator of the density and care invested in the construction, ensuring that the rug stays firmly in place while providing a luxurious, cushioned feel.

The assembly of these vintage wool patches is a task that demands a keen eye for detail and a steady hand. By reclaiming older textiles and giving them new life, this piece preserves traditional beauty through a modern lens, resulting in a durable and resilient foundation for your home.
