PatchworkHand KnottedRug

Red / Dark grey178 x 270 cm

Patchwork rugs represent a creative evolution in Middle Eastern rug-making, where the tradition of hand-knotting is reimagined for the modern home. Historically, this art form has allowed for the preservation of older, beautiful rug fragments that might otherwise be lost, giving them a new life through thoughtful restoration and reconfiguration.

The process relies on a deep understanding of textile history and design composition. By taking segments from various hand-knotted pieces, artisans can create new patterns that balance tradition with contemporary aesthetics. This practice honours the original labour while introducing a fresh perspective on how we display and appreciate woven art.

The visual language of these rugs is defined by their modular nature. By stitching together diverse textures and colours, the final design often features a blend of motifs and tones that would rarely appear together in a traditional single-loom rug. This results in an artistic, almost painterly quality that makes each piece a conversation starter.

Owning a patchwork rug is an investment in both history and sustainability. These pieces are highly valued by collectors and design enthusiasts alike, as they represent a bridge between the past and the present. By choosing this rug, you are supporting a craft that values the longevity of materials and the skill of the human hand.

This rug is created through a dedicated process of hand-knotting individual sections, which are then expertly assembled to form a seamless patchwork. This labour-intensive method requires a high degree of precision, as each segment must be joined with care to ensure the structural integrity of the final piece.

With a weight of 12.5 kg, the rug demonstrates a dense and robust construction. This significant weight is a direct result of the high-quality materials and the concentrated effort invested by skilled artisans, ensuring a finished product that is both heavy enough to lie flat and durable enough to withstand everyday use.

The craftsmanship involved in assembling such a complex piece speaks to a tradition of patience and skill. By hand-selecting each section and integrating them into a single, cohesive design, the artisans ensure that the final result is not only visually striking but also built to maintain its form and beauty over time.
