PatchworkHand KnottedRug

Orange / Beige120 x 177 cm

Patchwork rugs represent a modern evolution of the long-standing Middle Eastern tradition of textile preservation. In regions with a deep history of weaving, textiles were often cherished and passed down through generations. When a rug reached the end of its original life, the most intact and beautiful sections were salvaged, ensuring that the artistry and skill of the original weavers were not lost to time.

The terminology of patchwork refers to this intentional act of curation and assembly. By bringing together disparate pieces, the craft creates a new dialogue between patterns, borders, and textures that might never have met on a single loom. This process requires an expert eye for colour and scale, as the goal is to create a seamless visual flow from a collection of unique, hand-knotted fragments.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their complex, multi-layered appearance. They often feature a blend of classic motifs, geometric shapes, and floral elements that reflect the diverse regional styles of the Middle East. Because the fragments are sourced from various sources, the resulting rug often showcases a fascinating mix of age-worn textures and varying pile heights, which adds depth and a sense of history that new, mass-produced carpets simply cannot replicate.

Collecting a patchwork rug is an investment in cultural continuity. It is a way to appreciate the immense skill involved in traditional hand-knotting while enjoying a contemporary design that feels both grounded and fresh. These pieces are highly valued for their ability to tell a story of renewal, offering a sophisticated way to incorporate the depth of Middle Eastern heritage into a modern home environment.

This rug is created through a meticulous hand-knotted process that transforms individual vintage textile fragments into a unified, durable whole. Artisans spend significant time selecting pieces that complement each other in texture and tone, ensuring the final composition is both aesthetically balanced and structurally sound. This labour-intensive method requires a deep understanding of textile resilience and design harmony.

With a total weight of 7.4 kg, this rug demonstrates the density and quality of its construction. The weight is a direct result of the high-quality materials used to build its foundation, ensuring that the rug provides a substantial, long-lasting surface. This level of craftsmanship ensures that the piece retains its integrity even with regular use, offering a premium feel that reflects the many hours of dedicated work invested in its creation.
