Usak rugs have a storied history rooted in the town of Usak in Western Anatolia, a region long celebrated for its contributions to the textile arts. While these rugs were originally produced for the palaces of the Ottoman Empire and later exported to European markets, the tradition has evolved significantly over the centuries.

Today, the legacy of these designs continues through skilled weaving communities in India. These artisans honour the traditional aesthetic of the Usak style while adapting their techniques to contemporary sensibilities, ensuring that the spirit of these classic designs remains vibrant and relevant in modern homes.

The signature design elements of an Usak rug are characterised by their large-scale, often stylised floral motifs and medallions. Unlike more rigid geometric patterns, these designs lean into an organic, flowing aesthetic. The soft, harmonious colour palettes are a hallmark of the tradition, designed to blend seamlessly into refined interiors.

Owning an Usak-inspired rug is an opportunity to connect with a rich tradition of craftsmanship. These pieces are valued by collectors and homeowners alike for their ability to bring a sense of history and human touch into a living space, representing a bridge between ancient design traditions and the comfort of a modern home.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans in India. The process of hand-knotting is a labour-intensive craft that requires immense focus and precision, ensuring that every strand of Wool is securely placed to create a dense, resilient pile.

With a total weight of 21.6 kg, this rug demonstrates the substantial amount of premium material used in its creation. This density is a direct result of the hours of dedicated labour invested by the weaver, who carefully builds the foundation of the rug to ensure long-term structural integrity.

The time and skill required to complete a piece of this size and weight reflect a commitment to traditional craft. Each knot is a testament to the artisan's expertise, resulting in a finished product that offers both beauty and lasting quality for your home.
