Nahavand rugs originate from the historic town of Nahavand, located in the mountainous Hamadan region of the Middle East. This area has long been a hub for village weaving, where families have passed down distinct design traditions for generations. These rugs are celebrated for their sturdy construction and their ability to reflect the unique regional aesthetic of the surrounding Zagros mountains.

The construction of these rugs is defined by their robust nature, often featuring a foundation of cotton that provides a stable base for the dense wool pile. This combination of materials is chosen for its durability and resilience, ensuring that the rugs can withstand the demands of daily use while maintaining their structure and depth of colour over many years.

Visually, Nahavand rugs are known for their bold, often geometric representations of floral motifs and central medallions. While they share some design DNA with other rugs from the region, they are distinguished by their expressive, often slightly rustic approach to pattern. The use of deep, earthy reds and dark blues is a hallmark of the tradition, creating a strong contrast that makes the designs pop.

Collecting a Nahavand rug is an investment in regional heritage and the human skill of the weaver. Each piece acts as a narrative, capturing the design preferences and cultural nuances of the community where it was created. Owning one is an opportunity to enjoy a piece of history that brings both visual weight and a sense of enduring quality to a modern home.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused work to bring its intricate design to life. This labour-intensive process involves thousands of individual knots, each placed with precision to ensure the structural integrity and longevity of the finished piece.

With a total of approximately 560,000 knots across its surface, this rug demonstrates a high level of craftsmanship. This density is what allows for the sharp, clear definition of the complex patterns and ensures a pile that is both resilient and luxurious to the touch.

The substantial weight of 17.6 kg is a clear indicator of the generous amount of high-quality wool used in its construction. This weight reflects the density and care put into every inch of the rug, resulting in a durable, substantial textile that is built to provide years of warmth and beauty in your home.
