Dark red / Black242 x 340 cm

Mashad rugs originate from the holy city of Mashad in the northeastern part of the Middle East. This region has a long-standing reputation for producing some of the most respected floor coverings, often characterised by their deep, rich red tones and large-scale, complex floral arrangements that reflect the area's historical influence on regional art.

The craftsmanship involved in these rugs is defined by the use of high-quality Wool, often sourced from local sheep. This material is prized for its natural resilience and ability to take on deep, vibrant dyes, which contributes to the long-lasting appeal and saturated colours seen in traditional pieces from this city.

Design-wise, these rugs are famous for their central medallion and elaborate floral motifs that spread across the field. The borders are typically wide and filled with intricate scrolling vines, creating a formal and balanced aesthetic that has been refined over generations of weavers.

Owning a Mashad rug is a way to connect with a storied tradition of artistry. These rugs are highly valued by collectors and homeowners alike for their combination of beauty and sturdy construction, representing a legacy of skill that continues to define the reputation of this region.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted, a process that requires significant patience and skill. By tying each individual knot by hand, the artisan ensures a level of structural integrity and pattern clarity that simply cannot be achieved through mechanical means.

With an area of approximately 8.2 m2 and a total weight of 34.6 kg, this piece demonstrates a robust and dense construction. The substantial weight is a clear indicator of the high-quality materials and the intensive labour invested in its creation, reflecting a commitment to durability.

The complexity of the floral motifs and the fine detail of the central medallion are the direct results of thousands of hours of focused human effort. This dedication to the craft results in a sturdy, well-constructed rug that is built to withstand the demands of daily life.
