Mashad rugs originate from the holy city of Mashad, located in the northeastern part of the Middle East. This region has long been a major centre for textile production, with a history of weaving that stretches back centuries. The city is known for its ability to produce larger carpets that maintain a high degree of artistic consistency and technical refinement.

The term Mashad refers to a specific tradition of weaving that emphasises large-scale patterns and a high degree of durability. These rugs are often characterised by their robust construction, which makes them highly valued for both their aesthetic appeal and their ability to function as long-lasting centrepieces in the home.

Visually, these rugs are famous for their classic floral designs, often featuring a central medallion surrounded by scrolling vines and intricate petals. The deep red and blue tones are iconic to the region, creating a sophisticated colour palette that feels both traditional and bold. The borders are typically filled with complementary motifs that frame the central field with elegance.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an opportunity to connect with a rich, cultural heritage. These rugs are collected for their historical significance and the immense skill required to produce them. By bringing a Mashad rug into your home, you are acquiring a piece of history that embodies the patience, precision, and artistic vision of a centuries-old craft.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate countless hours to its creation. Each individual knot is tied by hand onto a sturdy cotton foundation, a process that ensures the rug's structural integrity and long-term durability. The density of the knots allows for the precise, fluid floral patterns that define the classic Mashad style.

Given the substantial size of this piece and its weight of 12.9 kg, the level of effort required to complete it is immense. The time invested by the weaver is reflected in the finished product's weight and substantial feel, which indicate a dense, high-quality construction that will hold its shape and pile density for years to come.

The craftsmanship behind this rug is a testament to techniques passed down through generations. By choosing a hand-knotted piece, you are supporting a tradition of manual skill that no machine can replicate. The result is a durable, resilient floor covering that provides a tactile experience of depth and texture that only genuine hand-made production can offer.
