One-of-a-kind
LoribaftHand KnottedWool rug
Dark red / Brown172 x 238 cm

Loribaft - A Vibrant Touch of Warmth for Your Home

Discover the artistry of this one-of-a-kind Loribaft rug. Hand-knotted with care, it brings a rich, traditional aesthetic and a soft, inviting feel to any room in your home.
Experience the comfort of this exceptional Loribaft rug, which offers a deep, plush pile that provides warmth and sound absorption to your living space. The tactile quality of the Wool is immediately noticeable underfoot, creating a cosy environment that invites you to slow down and relax.
This piece showcases a bold, saturated colour palette that serves as a stunning anchor for your interior design. The rich red field is framed by a decorative blue border filled with intricate motifs, offering a visual depth that simple, mass-produced rugs cannot replicate.
As a truly one-of-a-kind creation, this rug possesses character and soul that is entirely its own. You are acquiring a unique piece of textile art that will never be replicated, making it a special addition to your home that reflects a commitment to genuine, artisanal quality.
The inherent durability of this rug ensures it remains a lasting feature in your household. Its construction is designed to withstand daily life while maintaining its appearance and soft texture, providing both functional utility and aesthetic beauty for years to come.
Loribaft rugs originate from the nomadic tribes of the Zagros Mountains in the Middle East. These rugs are deeply rooted in a tradition of storytelling, where weavers draw inspiration from their natural surroundings, daily life, and ancestral myths, resulting in designs that feel both spontaneous and deeply connected to their cultural heritage.
The term 'Baft' refers to the weaving technique itself, which is often associated with the Lori and Bakhtiari tribes. These rugs are known for their thicker pile and softer Wool compared to other regional styles, a characteristic achieved through specific spinning and knotting methods that prioritise comfort and resilience for nomadic life.
Visually, these rugs are celebrated for their expressive fields and detailed borders. While many traditional examples feature bold, geometric medallions or stylised floral motifs, this particular piece utilises a striking red field paired with a complex blue border, highlighting the weaver's creative freedom within the established tribal design language.
Owning a piece from this tradition is an investment in human skill and regional history. Collectors value these rugs not only for their durability and material quality but for the cultural narrative woven into every knot, representing a centuries-old craft that continues to be passed down through generations.
This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires patience and steady hands to ensure every strand of Wool is placed with precision. With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, the creation of this 4.09 m2 rug involves over 650,000 individual knots, meaning the rug is exceptionally durable and high-quality.
The significant weight of 16.4 kg speaks to the density of the construction and the quality of the materials used. This substantial physical presence is a direct result of the hours of labour invested by the weaver, ensuring a robust and resilient structure that stands the test of time.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
