Lori rugs originate from the mountainous regions of the Middle East, where the nomadic and semi-nomadic Lori tribes have maintained a distinctive weaving tradition for centuries. These rugs are deeply connected to the landscape and the cultural heritage of these groups, often reflecting the stark beauty of the rugged terrain in their bold, graphic compositions.

The craftsmanship behind a Lori rug is defined by a commitment to traditional techniques that prioritise durability and natural materials. The use of robust Wool, often sourced from local mountain sheep, provides a pile that is not only soft but also incredibly hard-wearing. This material choice is fundamental to the rug's longevity, ensuring it ages gracefully over time.

Visually, these rugs are celebrated for their strong geometric language. They often feature large-scale medallions or repeated tribal motifs that stand out against dark, saturated fields of colour. The borders frequently incorporate symbolic elements that have been passed down through generations, making each rug a vessel of ancestral storytelling.

Collectors and enthusiasts value these rugs for their raw, unrefined energy and the clear evidence of human touch in every detail. Owning a Lori rug is an opportunity to connect with a storied tradition of craftsmanship, where the focus remains on producing a functional object that is also a lasting piece of cultural history.

This Lori rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process that demands immense skill and patience from the artisan. Each knot is tied individually, creating a durable structure that allows the rug to withstand years of daily use while maintaining its shape and beauty.

With a density of 90,000 knots per m2, the construction reflects a significant investment of time and human effort. This level of precision is essential for achieving the sharp, clear geometric lines that define the pattern, while simultaneously ensuring a pile density that feels both luxurious and resilient underfoot.
