Lori rugs originate from the mountainous regions of the Middle East, where the Lori people have long maintained a tradition of nomadic weaving. These rugs are deeply connected to the landscape and the cultural heritage of the tribes who create them, often reflecting the natural environment through their bold, geometric interpretations of local flora and fauna.

The craft of these rugs relies on a specific hand-knotted construction, which is vital for their characteristic durability and texture. By using high-quality wool, weavers are able to create a dense pile that is both resilient and soft. The traditional techniques employed ensure that each rug is built to last, with a focus on creating a tight foundation that supports the complex, symbolic patterns woven into the field.

Visually, Lori rugs are celebrated for their expressive geometric designs, often featuring large, stylized medallions or repetitive tribal motifs. While red is a traditional and dominant colour in this style, the use of secondary tones like grey adds a sophisticated depth to the composition. The borders are typically bold and structured, framing the more fluid, artistic patterns found in the central field.

Beyond their functional use, these rugs are highly valued by collectors for their authenticity and the human story behind every knot. Owning a piece from this tradition is an opportunity to preserve a living history of craft. Each rug serves as a document of the weaver's skill and cultural identity, making it a meaningful addition to any collection that values heritage and genuine artistry.

This Lori rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense focus and patience. Given the 224 x 138 cm dimensions, the creation of such a piece involves hundreds of thousands of individual knots, each placed by hand to ensure the structural integrity and pattern clarity of the final design. This time-intensive technique is the hallmark of premium quality, resulting in a finish that machines simply cannot replicate.

The substantial 9 kg weight of this rug is a testament to the density of the construction and the quality of the materials used. This weight provides the rug with a stable, lay-flat quality that is essential for durability in high-traffic areas. The human effort invested in every square centimetre ensures that the foundation is strong and the pile is securely anchored, allowing the rug to withstand years of use while retaining its structural form.
