Lillian rugs originate from the village of Lilian in the Arak region of the Middle East, a hub renowned for its rich history of textile production. These rugs are celebrated for their distinctive approach to traditional floral and medallion patterns, which often depart from the more rigid geometric layouts found in neighbouring areas.

The craft of these rugs is defined by the use of high-quality, durable wool and a sturdy foundation. This combination creates a heavy, resilient pile that is well-suited for high-traffic areas, ensuring that the rug remains a functional and beautiful element of a home for generations.

Visually, Lillian rugs are known for their bold, expressive floral arrangements and large-scale medallions. They often feature a vibrant colour palette dominated by rich reds and deep blues, creating a warm and welcoming aesthetic. The borders are typically filled with ornate, stylized botanical motifs that frame the central design.

Collectors value these rugs for their authenticity and the skill required to produce such detailed, free-flowing designs. Owning a Lillian rug means holding a piece of regional history, representing a tradition where every knot is a testament to the artisan's dedication and the enduring appeal of traditional Middle Eastern design.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to its creation. The process involves tying each individual knot by hand, a labour-intensive method that ensures the highest level of pattern clarity and pile density.

With a construction density of 250,000 knots per m2, this piece represents a significant investment of time and human skill. This high knot count is the foundation of its durability, allowing the rug to withstand daily use while maintaining its intricate design and structural integrity over time.

The combination of a 15.2 kg weight and the dense knotting technique highlights the substantial amount of high-quality wool used in its making. This careful production process results in a rug that is not only beautiful but also robust, reflecting a level of craftsmanship that is increasingly rare in modern home decor.
