Every detail of this floor covering speaks of genuine craftsmanship, providing a reliable layer of everyday comfort that stands up to family life while remaining soft to the touch. Because this piece is entirely unique, no other home will have this exact composition of colours and motifs, making it a truly personal addition to your interior.

Originating from Afghanistan, this rug carries the authentic provenance of a time-honoured weaving region directly into your room. The wool fibres provide natural resilience and cosy insulation, keeping your floors warm through cooler months while remaining breathable and easy to live with day after day.

Kunduz rugs originate from the northern Afghan city of Kunduz, an important cultural hub where various weaving traditions converge. Artisans in this region draw upon generations of heritage, blending techniques and tribal motifs that have been passed down for centuries along ancient trade routes.

The 2supply construction method often found in these traditions refers to the twisting of two wool strands together before knotting. This technique produces a particularly robust and resilient foundation, enhancing the lustre of the wool and ensuring the rug withstands daily wear while maintaining its characteristic depth of colour.

The visual language of Kunduz rugs is defined by strong geometric arrangements, often featuring repeating guls, diamond medallions, and structured borders that frame the central field. The dominant red tones are traditionally achieved using natural dyes, creating a warm and earthy palette that remains a hallmark of Afghan weaving.

Rugs from this tradition are highly prized by collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate the human story woven into every square centimetre. Owning a piece like this means preserving a living craft tradition, bringing genuine heritage and enduring artistic skill directly into a modern home.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of careful labour to bring the intricate design to life. Each knot is tied by hand with exacting precision, resulting in a dense and durable pile that secures the wool fibres firmly in place.

With a density of 90,000 knots per m2, approximately 273,810 individual knots have been placed by hand across the 203 x 150 cm surface. This high knot count allows for exceptionally crisp pattern details and a sturdy structure that ensures the rug holds its shape and beauty for generations.

Weighing 9.1 kg, the solid construction reflects the generous amount of natural material and human effort invested in its creation. This careful hand-knotting process requires a level of patience and skill that simply cannot be replicated by machines.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.

Cotton

Cotton is a natural material that makes them a suitable option for people with allergies. The material is soft, durable and resilient, which makes them practical and comfortable for high-traffic areas such as the hallway, kitchen, and bathroom.
