Kelim Patchwork - A Home Full of Stories

Discover a truly one-of-a-kind runner handcrafted from genuine fragments of vintage Middle Eastern Kelim rugs, bringing rich heritage and warm texture to your floor.
Bring a vibrant piece of history into your hallway or narrow space with this distinctive runner, measuring 303 x 82 cm. Composed entirely of carefully selected fragments from vintage Middle Eastern flatweaves, every single square centimetre tells a different story. The textured surface offers a wonderful tactile experience underfoot, adding natural warmth and character to your home while helping to absorb sound in busier corridors.
Crafted from 100% wool, this runner provides a sturdy, resilient pile that handles daily footfall with ease while remaining soft and welcoming. Wool naturally resists dirt and retains its comforting feel for years, making it as practical as it is visually engaging.
Because this runner is a true patchwork creation assembled from unique antique and semi-antique rug fragments, no two pieces are ever alike. The exact arrangement of patterns, dyes, and weaves exists nowhere else in the world, and this precise combination will never be replicated.
Originating from the rich weaving traditions of the Middle East, this runner carries a deep sense of cultural heritage. It is a considered choice for anyone wanting to ground their interior with authentic craftsmanship and genuine soul.
The art of patchwork rug-making emerged as a thoughtful way to honour and preserve textile traditions. When older flatweaves sustained damage over decades of use, skilled makers began rescuing the surviving undamaged sections. By joining these treasured remnants together, they created entirely new compositions that celebrate the diverse patterns and regional motifs of Middle Eastern weaving.
Kelim rugs are traditionally flatwoven without a pile, using a warp and weft technique where the design is built directly by interweaving coloured yarns. This construction creates a durable, reversible textile with a smooth surface that has been relied upon by nomadic and village communities across the Middle Eastern region for centuries.
This runner features an eclectic mix of traditional motifs, including geometric symbols, tribal borders, and striped sections in earthy tones and rich reds. Each individual patch represents a different pocket of weaving history, coming together to form a cohesive narrative of pattern and colour.
Owning a patchwork Kelim means holding a tangible piece of textile history. It connects your living space to generations of anonymous makers whose hand-spun yarns and natural dyes continue to live on through these carefully preserved fragments.
This runner is entirely handmade through traditional flatweaving techniques, bringing together numerous rescued fragments of older rugs. Skilled artisans meticulously stitch these sections together by hand, ensuring every seam is secure and the final composition flows harmoniously.
Weighing 5 kg across its 303 x 82 cm dimensions, this piece reflects a dense and robust construction that speaks to the durability of the natural materials used. Sourcing, sorting, and stitching together vintage remnants of this quality requires immense patience, precision, and a deep understanding of traditional textile arts.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
