Kilim NimbaftHand WovenRug

Brown173 x 231 cm

Kilim rugs have a long history rooted in the nomadic and village traditions of the Middle East where portable flatwoven textiles served practical purposes as floor coverings blankets and storage bags. Over generations these utilitarian weaves evolved into celebrated forms of artistic expression.

The Nimbaft tradition highlights a specific style of flatweaving from Afghanistan where artisans use specialised techniques to create detailed patterns without a raised pile. This construction method results in a lightweight yet resilient textile that lies flat and holds its shape gracefully.

The visual language of this tradition often relies on geometric fields and repeating motifs that draw inspiration from tribal heritage and natural surroundings. Here the traditional background is enlivened with orderly rows of small vibrant geometric accents creating a playful contrast against the calm grey base.

Owning a piece from this tradition means acquiring a tangible connection to generations of textile artistry. Each rug preserves regional stories and manual skills that modern machinery simply cannot replicate.

This rug is entirely hand woven by skilled artisans in Afghanistan a craft that requires careful manual placement of each thread. The flatwoven technique creates a durable reversible textile built to withstand daily life.

Weighing 4 kg across its 231 x 173 cm dimensions the construction demonstrates a dense build that speaks to the considerable time and human effort invested in its creation.
