Kelim weaving has a rich history deeply embedded in the nomadic and village traditions of Central Asia and the Middle East. Originally created as versatile, durable floor coverings and blankets for daily nomadic life, these flatwoven textiles rely on a time-honoured technique where the pattern is created by tightly interweaving the coloured weft threads through the warp.

The flatweave construction means there is no pile, resulting in a lightweight yet remarkably sturdy textile. This centuries-old method allows artisans to achieve crisp geometric clarity and reversible designs, making each finished piece both structurally sound and visually striking.

Traditional Afghan kelims often feature bold geometric motifs, stripes, and medallions that tell visual stories of the maker's community and surroundings. This particular piece showcases a striking balance of concentric shapes and linear borders, blending classic design principles with a contemporary aesthetic.

Owning a hand-woven Afghan kelim connects your living space to a living craft tradition. Each rug represents hours of skilled handiwork and a cultural heritage valued by collectors and home decorators for its authenticity and enduring appeal.

This rug is meticulously hand-woven by skilled artisans using traditional flatweave techniques that have been passed down through generations. Without a raised pile, the construction relies entirely on the careful interlacing of the warp and weft threads.

Weighing 8 kg across its generous surface area, the dense weave reflects the considerable time and human effort invested in its creation. Each line of colour is placed by hand with high precision, resulting in sharp geometric patterns and a durable structure built to last.
