Hailing from Afghanistan this flatwoven rug carries a rich cultural heritage that brings authentic character to your floors making it a wonderful focal point for your home.

Kelim rugs have a long and respected history across Central Asia and the Middle East traditionally created by nomadic and village weavers who passed their craft down through generations. These flatwoven carpets were originally made for practical life in harsh climates serving as durable floor coverings and winter blankets.

The term kelim refers to a flatweaving technique where the weft threads are tightly packed down over the warp threads to create a smooth surface without a raised pile. This traditional construction method results in a lightweight reversible rug that remains remarkably resilient over years of daily use.

The visual language of Afghan Kelims is defined by geometric motifs traditional diamond medallions and striking symbols rooted in tribal storytelling. The bright light-blue field of this particular piece offers a refreshing variation on traditional palettes framed by carefully balanced motifs that create a harmonious visual rhythm.

Collecting vintage-inspired kelims connects your living space to centuries of textile artistry. Owning a piece like this means welcoming a slice of living history into your home crafted with a level of human skill and patience that modern machines simply cannot replicate.

This rug is entirely hand woven by skilled artisans who spend weeks passing strands through the warp and weft by hand. This careful process requires immense patience and steady precision to achieve the crisp geometric lines and durable flatwoven structure.

Weighing 2.3 kg across its 181 x 125 cm dimensions the solid construction reflects the dense amount of natural wool and human effort invested in its creation. Every row is tightly beaten down by hand to ensure a sturdy finish that stands up to everyday family life.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
