KeshanHand KnottedRug

Dark red / Brown135 x 210 cm

Keshan rugs originate from the historic city of Kashan in Persia, a legendary hub along ancient trade routes renowned for its master weavers. For centuries, artisans in this region have perfected the art of storytelling through textiles, creating sophisticated floor coverings that celebrate botanical and pictorial themes.

The traditional hand-knotted construction method relies on securing individual tufts of yarn around the foundation warp threads, building a dense and integrated structure. This time-tested technique ensures the rug lies flat, resists shedding, and maintains its luxurious texture through decades of daily use.

This particular rug showcases a narrative pictorial design filled with charming motifs of wildlife, trees, and traditional architecture set against a rich field. The vibrant framing borders enclose the central landscape with balanced symmetry, a signature hallmark of classic Keshan composition.

Collecting a Keshan rug means acquiring a tangible piece of rich cultural heritage. These works reflect generations of refined skill, offering enduring value and a deeply human connection that mass-produced furnishings simply cannot replicate.

Crafted entirely by hand using a traditional hand-knotted technique, this rug represents months of dedicated human effort and master craftsmanship. Artisans meticulously tie each knot by hand to build a foundation of exceptional strength and durability.

With a total area of 2.84 m2 and a density of 250,000 knots per m2, roughly 710,000 individual knots were placed by hand. This intensive process demands remarkable patience and precision, resulting in the crisp pattern definition and sturdy pile weight of 10.5 kg that defines true heirloom quality.
