Grey / Red164 x 256 cm

Isfahan is celebrated as the heart of Middle Eastern artistic tradition, with a history of carpet weaving that dates back centuries. The city itself is famous for its architecture and gardens, and these influences are deeply woven into the visual language of its rugs. Historically, these pieces were commissioned by royalty and the elite, serving as expressions of cultural prestige and refined taste.

The technical term 'Silkwarp' refers to the use of fine silk threads for the foundation of the rug. This choice of material is indicative of the highest quality standards, as silk allows for a much finer and more precise weave compared to cotton. This construction not only enhances the durability of the rug but also contributes to the elegant drape and subtle sheen that characterises the finest examples from this region.

Signature design elements in Isfahan rugs typically include a central medallion surrounded by a complex field of scrolling vines, palmettes, and floral sprays. The borders are often equally detailed, echoing the patterns found in the central field to create a cohesive and harmonious look. This specific rug showcases these traditional motifs with a masterful sense of balance and colour coordination.

Owning an Isfahan rug is more than just acquiring a floor covering; it is an investment in a living heritage. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their consistency, artistic depth, and the incredible skill required to execute such intricate patterns. By bringing this piece into your home, you are participating in a long-standing tradition of beauty and craft that continues to inspire admiration across the world.

This Isfahan rug is crafted using traditional hand-knotted techniques, a process that requires immense patience and precision. Skilled artisans spend months carefully tying each individual knot by hand, ensuring that the final result is both structurally sound and aesthetically refined. This labour-intensive method is what gives the rug its exceptional density and longevity.

With a density of 640,000 knots per m2, this rug represents a significant investment of time and human effort. This high knot count is crucial for the sharpness of the intricate floral designs, allowing for fluid curves and fine details that would be impossible to achieve through other methods. The sheer volume of work involved in creating a rug of this size and density is a testament to the artisan's dedication.

The foundation of the rug is constructed with a silk base, which provides a sturdy yet flexible structure that supports the dense wool pile. This combination of premium materials and expert hand-knotting results in a floor covering that is not only beautiful but also built to withstand the demands of daily life. The precision of the knotting ensures that the pile remains upright and vibrant, maintaining the rug's integrity over time.
