Hamadan rugs originate from one of the oldest cities in the Middle East, a region with a weaving tradition that stretches back thousands of years. Located in the western part of the region, the city of Hamadan serves as a commercial hub for hundreds of surrounding villages, each contributing unique variations to the overarching regional style.

The term Hamadan refers to a vast category of rugs that are unified by their reliable, sturdy construction and their use of high-quality, locally sourced Wool. These rugs are typically characterized by a robust foundation, which makes them highly prized for their ability to withstand the rigors of daily use while retaining their aesthetic charm.

Design-wise, these rugs are celebrated for their bold geometric motifs and striking medallions. While floral patterns are sometimes seen, the most iconic examples feature repeating geometric figures or a central medallion framed by intricate borders. The use of vibrant, natural dyes often results in a rich colour palette that deepens in character over time.

Owning a hand-knotted runner from this tradition is an investment in cultural heritage. Collectors and homeowners value these pieces for their authenticity, the immense skill required to produce them, and the way they bring a sense of history and warmth into a contemporary home.

This runner is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense patience and precision. By individually tying each knot onto the cotton foundation, the weaver creates a dense and durable structure that is far more resilient than mass-produced alternatives.

With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, this rug contains approximately 259,840 individual knots. This high level of precision allows for the sharp, intricate definition of the geometric motifs and ensures a pile that is exceptionally compact and long-lasting.

The substantial weight of 6.5 kg for this 205 x 79 cm runner is a direct result of the high-quality Wool used and the density of the hand-knotted construction. This weight ensures the rug lies perfectly flat on your floor and provides a reassuring sense of quality and stability underfoot.
