Golpayegan rugs originate from the historic city of Golpayegan in the Middle East, a region with a long-standing reputation for its unique approach to textile design. These rugs are deeply rooted in the local customs of the area, where the art of weaving has been passed down through generations, reflecting the surrounding landscape and cultural motifs.

The craft of these rugs is defined by a specific approach to construction that focuses on creating a balanced and lasting product. Artisans in this tradition prioritise the use of high-quality materials and consistent knotting techniques, which result in a pile that is known for its resilience and ability to showcase intricate colour work without distorting over time.

The visual language of the Golpayegan style is characterised by its use of rich colour palettes and classic medallion-based patterns. You will often see a central motif framed by elaborate borders, with the field filled by winding floral elements and vine scrolls. This specific piece stands out for its bold use of colour and the complexity of its floral work, which showcases the weaver's ability to balance space and detail.

These rugs are highly sought after by collectors who value the intersection of traditional skill and regional identity. Owning a piece from this tradition means you are preserving a craft that has survived through centuries of change, offering a tangible connection to the history and culture of the region.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to its creation. The process involves thousands of individual knots, each placed with precision to ensure the structural integrity and longevity of the final piece.

The weight of 38 kg for this 341 x 223 cm rug is a testament to the generous amount of high-quality Wool used in its construction. This substantial weight indicates a dense, robust foundation that is designed to withstand daily use while maintaining its plush feel and vibrant appearance over time.

By choosing a hand-knotted piece, you are supporting a tradition that values human skill over mass production. The time and patience required to bring such a complex design to life result in a level of durability and character that simply cannot be achieved through mechanical means.
