China 90 LineHand KnottedRug

Orange / Brown69 x 122 cm

The tradition of Chinese rug weaving is deeply rooted in a history that stretches back centuries, often drawing inspiration from silk production and imperial court artistry. These rugs are renowned for their distinct approach to floral motifs and balanced, often relief-like compositions that emphasise a harmonious relationship between the central field and the surrounding borders.

The 90-line classification refers to a specific, traditional measurement of density in Chinese rug making, which determines the fineness and stability of the weave. This technical standard allows for the crisp, sculptural definition of the floral patterns, ensuring that the design remains clear and vibrant even after years of daily life.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their use of open space and elegant, flowing lines that mirror the aesthetics of classical Chinese painting. The floral elements are typically arranged with a sense of deliberate placement, creating a balanced and orderly appearance that brings a sense of calm to any interior environment.

Owning a hand-knotted piece from this tradition is an investment in cultural heritage and refined craft. Collectors value these rugs not only for their beauty but for the expertise required to execute such intricate designs by hand, making them timeless additions to a home that values both history and comfort.

This piece is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and skill to ensure every detail of the floral pattern is captured with clarity. The creation of such a rug involves thousands of individual knots, resulting in a dense and durable structure that is built to last.

With a total weight of 4.2 kg across its surface area, this rug reflects the significant amount of high-quality material invested in its construction. This density not only contributes to the plush, supportive feel of the pile but also serves as a testament to the time and effort dedicated by the artisan to complete this work.

Every inch of this rug is the result of focused human effort, moving beyond industrial manufacturing to provide a level of character and resilience that machines simply cannot match. This traditional approach ensures that the rug maintains its shape and beauty over many years of regular use.
