China 90 LineHand KnottedRug

Brown / Orange69 x 122 cm

Chinese rug weaving is a craft with deep historical roots, often influenced by the classic motifs of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Over centuries, these traditions have evolved to incorporate both local artistic expressions and broader aesthetic trends, resulting in the refined, elegant styles seen in modern Chinese rug production.

The term 90 line refers to a specific traditional metric used in the Chinese rug industry to denote the density of the weave. This measurement system has long served as a standard for quality, indicating how many knots are present per linear foot. A higher count generally points to a more intricate design capability and a more durable final product.

Floral motifs are a signature element of this tradition, often symbolising prosperity, longevity, or seasonal beauty. These patterns are typically rendered with a sense of balance and space, featuring soft, curving lines and a harmonious arrangement of medallions and borders that create a sense of calm.

Owning a hand-knotted rug from this tradition is about more than just decor; it is an investment in a storied craft. These rugs are highly valued for their longevity and the cultural heritage they carry, offering a unique opportunity to connect with an artistic legacy that has been passed down through generations.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a traditional process that requires significant time and skill. By carefully securing each knot, the artisan ensures that the pile remains dense and resilient, providing a level of durability that machine-made alternatives simply cannot match.

The complexity of the floral motifs requires a high level of precision, with the artisan dedicating many hours to achieving the crisp lines and balanced composition you see. This intensive human effort is what gives the rug its distinct character and lasting quality.

With a weight of 4.2 kg, this rug features a substantial construction that speaks to the quality of the materials used. This weight ensures that the rug stays firmly in place while providing a plush, luxurious feel that enhances your daily comfort.
