China 90 LineHand KnottedRug

Brown / Black60 x 93 cm

Chinese rug production has a storied past that spans centuries, evolving from ancient techniques into the refined artistry seen in pieces like this. The region has long been celebrated for its ability to blend technical precision with artistic expression, drawing inspiration from classical motifs like floral arrangements and symbolic patterns that have defined the local aesthetic for generations.

The terminology used to describe these rugs often refers to the count of knots or the fineness of the weave, which serves as a benchmark for quality. A higher count indicates that the artisans have spent more time refining the design, resulting in a tighter, more substantial pile that offers better durability and a more luxurious texture for the end user.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their clear, balanced compositions. Floral motifs are a staple of this tradition, often featuring soft, flowing lines and a harmonious arrangement of colours that feel both grounded and elegant. The use of a deep blue field against lighter accents is a hallmark of this style, providing a sophisticated contrast that anchors a room without overwhelming it.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an invitation to enjoy a blend of heritage and high-quality craft. These rugs are highly valued for their ability to bring a sense of history into a modern home, offering a unique combination of lasting durability and artistic beauty that makes them a meaningful addition to any collection.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and professional skill. By manually securing each individual strand into the foundation, artisans ensure that the final result is far more durable and dense than machine-made alternatives.

The construction of this piece involves a significant investment of time and human effort, reflecting the high standards of Chinese rug making. Given the density and the substantial weight of 2.7 kg for its size, this rug demonstrates a high concentration of material and careful workmanship that justifies its lasting quality.

Every detail of the floral pattern is achieved through the precision of hand-knotting, which allows for crisp edges and a clear, intentional design. This level of dedication to the craft ensures that the pile remains upright and resilient, maintaining its plush feel and vibrant appearance throughout its life in your home.
