China 90 LineHand KnottedRug

Brown / Dark blue60 x 90 cm

Chinese rug weaving is a tradition that spans centuries, evolving from functional floor coverings into expressions of artistic mastery. Historically, these rugs were highly prized for their symbolic designs and were often reserved for temples or the homes of the elite, serving as markers of status and cultural heritage.

The term '90 line' refers to a specific technical standard in Chinese rug making, indicating the density of the knots per linear foot. This standardised approach allows artisans to create crisp, clear patterns while maintaining a high level of pile density, ensuring the rug is both visually stunning and durable enough for long-term use.

The design of this piece draws heavily on the tradition of floral motifs, which have been a hallmark of Chinese textile art for generations. These patterns often incorporate stylised roses and vines, arranged in balanced compositions that reflect a desire for harmony and beauty within the home, framed by elegant, decorative borders.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an opportunity to connect with a storied history of craft. These rugs are collected not only for their beauty but for the skill they represent, offering a link to the past while remaining perfectly suited for the contemporary home.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate significant time to ensure every detail of the floral pattern is captured with precision. The construction process is a labour-intensive journey that results in a robust, high-quality finish that mass-produced alternatives simply cannot match.

Weighing 2.7 kg, this rug demonstrates a substantial density that speaks to the quality of the materials used and the effort invested in its creation. This density ensures that the rug remains stable and resilient, providing a long-lasting surface that stands up to daily wear while retaining its plush character.

The careful hand-knotting process allows for the intricate design work seen in the floral motifs, which are executed with a level of accuracy that only human hands can achieve. By choosing this piece, you are supporting a tradition of craftsmanship where every knot contributes to the overall strength and beauty of the finished rug.
