China 90 LineHand KnottedRug

Beige / Dark teal60 x 90 cm

Chinese rug-making is a storied tradition that has evolved over centuries, blending artistic expression with practical utility. While the region is historically renowned for its silk production, the evolution of Wool-based rugs has become a cornerstone of local craft, particularly in the creation of pieces that feature intricate floral and botanical motifs inspired by traditional garden imagery.

The 90 Line designation refers to a specific traditional measurement method used in the region to denote the density of the weave. This technical standard is essential for ensuring that the rug achieves the desired balance between softness and long-term durability. It signifies a level of detail that allows for the crisp, clean lines seen in the intricate floral borders of this piece.

Signature design elements in this tradition often include a central medallion surrounded by a frame of blooming flowers or scrolling vines. The use of soft, harmonious colour palettes is intended to create a sense of balance and visual peace, reflecting a long-standing cultural appreciation for nature and the serenity of the natural world in interior design.

Owning a hand-knotted rug from this tradition is an act of preserving a specialised skill set that has been passed down through generations. These pieces are highly valued by collectors and homeowners alike, not only for their aesthetic appeal but for the sheer dedication required to produce them, representing a commitment to quality and the timeless appeal of artisan-made goods.

This rug is created through a meticulous hand-knotted process, where every individual knot is tied by a skilled artisan to ensure structural integrity and a uniform, dense pile. This intensive method creates a durable surface that resists wear and retains its shape over many years of enjoyment.

With a total weight of 2.7 kg, this piece demonstrates a substantial material density that speaks to the quality of its construction. The weight is a testament to the generous amount of high-quality Wool used in its creation, which provides a plush, resilient feel that is characteristic of premium hand-knotted goods.

The process of creating such a detailed floral pattern requires immense focus and precision. By hand-knotting each element of the design, the artisans achieve a level of clarity and depth in the motifs that mechanical production simply cannot emulate, ensuring that each rug is a long-lasting investment for your home.
