China 90 LineHand KnottedRug

Beige / Brown60 x 90 cm

Chinese rug production is a storied tradition that has evolved over centuries, blending local artistic sensibilities with regional techniques. Known for their focus on balanced, harmonious designs, these rugs often incorporate symbolic floral elements that draw inspiration from classical Chinese art and nature.

The term '90 line' refers to a specific system of measurement used to describe the density of the weave in traditional Chinese rug making. By standardising the number of knots along a specific width, weavers have been able to achieve consistent quality and detail, allowing for the intricate curves and soft transitions seen in this rug's floral motifs.

Design-wise, these rugs are characterised by their clear, often recessed floral patterns that create a soft relief effect. The borders are typically formal, framing the central medallion or field to maintain a sense of order and symmetry. In this piece, the light-blue and beige tones reflect a classic colour tradition that emphasises tranquillity and grace.

Collecting these rugs is an appreciation of a craft that values both beauty and utility. They are highly regarded for their ability to integrate into diverse interior styles while maintaining their cultural identity. By choosing a rug from this tradition, you are continuing a legacy of artisanal skill and bringing a piece of refined history into your own living space.

This piece is carefully hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate significant time and effort to every individual knot. The process of creating such a rug requires a disciplined approach to ensure the floral patterns are crisp and the pile remains consistent across the entire surface.

With a weight of 2.7 kg for its 90 x 60 cm size, this rug demonstrates a substantial and dense construction that speaks to the quality of the materials and the intensity of the labour involved. The weight is a direct indicator of the density of the knots, ensuring that the rug will maintain its shape and resilience even with regular use.

Every stage of the production is managed with a focus on precision, from the preparation of the foundation to the final trimming of the pile. This level of craftsmanship ensures that the rug is not just a floor covering, but a durable object designed to last for years, reflecting the expertise and patience of the craftspeople who brought it to life.
