Beige / Dark blue60 x 90 cm

Chinese rug production has a long and storied history, evolving from ancient traditions of weaving that date back thousands of years. While early Chinese textiles were often functional, the art of rug making flourished as a way to incorporate symbolic imagery and sophisticated aesthetics into home decor, often drawing from traditional painting and porcelain motifs.

The 90 Line designation refers to a specific system of measurement used to categorise the density of hand-knotted rugs in China. This technical standard indicates the number of knots along a specific width, which directly influences the crispness of the design and the overall durability of the pile. Understanding this terminology helps you appreciate the level of precision required to execute the detailed floral patterns seen in this piece.

Floral motifs have long been a hallmark of this tradition, often representing prosperity, elegance, and the natural beauty of the changing seasons. The classic composition of a central medallion surrounded by a decorative border is a testament to the balanced, harmonious design language that has defined Chinese rug artistry for generations.

Owning a hand-knotted rug from this region is an opportunity to connect with a legacy of exceptional skill. These rugs are highly valued by collectors and homeowners alike for their ability to blend artistic expression with practical utility, serving as a permanent record of the artisan's dedication and the cultural heritage of their origin.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate significant time and effort to each piece. With a knot density of 90,000 knots per m2, the construction is remarkably precise, ensuring that the intricate floral patterns remain sharp and well-defined over many years of use.

The quality of this piece is further evidenced by its substantial weight of 2.7 kg, which speaks to the density of the materials and the intensity of the labour involved in its creation. This level of craftsmanship creates a robust foundation that ensures the rug maintains its shape and beauty, standing up to daily life with ease.

Each knot is placed by hand, a process that requires patience and expertise that machines simply cannot replicate. By choosing this rug, you are supporting a tradition of manual skill that values quality and longevity above all else, resulting in a product that feels solid and well-considered.
