Beige / Dark blue60 x 90 cm

The tradition of rug weaving in China is deeply rooted in ancient history, often drawing inspiration from silk textiles and imperial art. Over centuries, these techniques evolved to incorporate intricate floral designs and symbolic motifs, often reflecting the natural world and the seasons.

The term '90 line' refers to a traditional method of measuring the density of the knots along the width of the rug, which has long been a hallmark of Chinese craft. This specific measurement ensures a consistent, high-quality structure that supports both the complexity of the design and the longevity of the pile.

Floral patterns are a cornerstone of this weaving tradition, frequently featuring stylized roses and scrolling vines that suggest elegance and grace. The use of a bold blue field paired with softer floral tones is a classic choice that highlights the skill required to balance vibrant colours with delicate details.

Owning a hand-knotted piece from this tradition is an opportunity to connect with a storied past of textile mastery. These rugs are highly valued for their ability to maintain their form and beauty, serving as a lasting testament to the skill and cultural heritage of Chinese artisans.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and precision. By individually tying each knot, the artisan ensures that the floral patterns maintain their clarity and that the pile remains dense and resilient over time.

Given the dimensions of 90 x 60 cm and a weight of 2.7 kg, this rug contains a significant amount of material, which directly contributes to its luxurious feel and long-term durability. This weight is a testament to the high density of the construction and the effort invested in creating a sturdy, high-quality foundation.

The time and human effort involved in hand-knotting a piece of this nature are substantial. Every loop reflects the dedication of the maker, resulting in a finished product that is far superior in strength and character to anything produced by a machine.
