Rugs from China have a storied history that spans centuries, evolving from functional floor coverings to highly prized works of art. The tradition of Chinese rug making is deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of the region, often drawing inspiration from silk weaving, porcelain designs, and traditional landscape painting.

The term '90 line' refers to a specific traditional measurement system used to define the density of the knots. This technical standard is essential for ensuring the consistency and longevity of the rug, as it dictates how many knots are packed into every square inch of the foundation. A higher line count generally corresponds to a sharper, more defined pattern, which is evident in the intricate floral details of this piece.

Signature design elements of this tradition frequently include balanced, symmetrical compositions often featuring central floral medallions and decorative borders. The use of soft, naturalistic colour palettes combined with bold field colours like blue or yellow is a classic hallmark, creating a visual harmony that feels both balanced and inviting.

Owning a hand-knotted piece from this tradition is a way to connect with a legacy of patience and mastery. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their ability to blend seamlessly into various interiors while maintaining a strong sense of identity, representing a standard of craft that remains celebrated globally.

This piece is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense skill and patience. By using a 90 line construction, the artisans ensure that every single knot is placed with precision, resulting in a dense and durable pile that highlights the clarity of the floral motifs.

Given the dimensions of this rug, the labour-intensive nature of hand-knotting means that the creation of this specific piece represents many hours of dedicated craftsmanship. This level of detail is what gives the rug its substantial feel and lasting quality, ensuring it remains a cherished part of your home for years.

The foundation of the rug is crafted with care, using a sturdy cotton base that provides the necessary tension for the Wool pile to remain secure. This traditional construction method is a hallmark of high-quality rug making, ensuring the finished piece is both robust and flexible.
