Bokhara 3plyHand KnottedRug

Dark red / Black78 x 114 cm

Bokhara rugs trace their design roots back along the ancient Silk Road, taking their name from the historic Central Asian trading hub of Bukhara. Over generations, this distinctive style migrated and flourished in regions including Pakistan, where local weavers refined the craft to an exceptional standard.

The term 3ply indicates that the pile is spun using three separate strands of wool twisted together. This multi-strand construction yields a particularly robust, dense, and lustrous pile that performs better and lasts significantly longer than single-ply alternatives.

Visually, this tradition is defined by the repetition of repeating gul motifs, which are octagonal or elephant-foot medallions arranged in neat rows across a rich red field, framed by structured geometric borders.

Owning a rug from this respected lineage connects your home to centuries of textile heritage, celebrating the enduring skill of the artisans who preserve these intricate traditions today.

This rug has been painstakingly crafted using traditional hand-knotted techniques, a process requiring immense patience and precision from skilled artisans in Pakistan.

With a knot density of 250,000 knots per m2, the creation of this 114 x 78 cm rug involved placing approximately 222,300 individual knots by hand. This careful method ensures exceptional pattern definition and a deeply packed pile that stands up to years of daily use.

The considerable weight of 2.8 kg reflects the dense concentration of natural wool and the sturdy construction invested by the weaver, representing months of dedicated craftsmanship.
