Bokhara 3plyHand KnottedRug

Dark red / BlackRunner75 x 241 cm

Bokhara rugs trace their design roots back to the ancient Silk Road trading hub of Bukhara in Central Asia, where nomadic and village weavers perfected distinctive geometric patterns. Over generations, the tradition migrated southward, and today some of the finest examples are skillfully crafted in Pakistan.

The 3ply construction indicates that the pile is woven using three individual strands of wool twisted together before knotting. This specific technique creates a thicker, denser, and more resilient pile compared to standard single-ply alternatives, offering enhanced comfort and longevity.

The visual language of this tradition is defined by repeating gul motifs, which are octagonal or elephant-foot medallions arranged in neat rows across the rich red field. These central motifs are framed by carefully detailed geometric borders that complete the balanced composition.

Rugs from this esteemed tradition are valued by collectors for their deep cultural roots and the remarkable skill required to produce them. Owning a piece like this means bringing home a tangible connection to centuries of textile artistry and enduring design.

This runner is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who tie each knot individually by hand onto the loom. Creating a piece of this size with a density of 250,000 knots per m2 requires months of dedicated human labor, patience, and expert precision.

Weighing 5.6 kg across a size of 241 x 75 cm, the robust construction reflects the substantial amount of natural wool and dense hand-knotting invested into the piece. This intensive craft process guarantees a sturdy, high-quality foundation built to endure for generations.
