Bokhara 2plyHand KnottedRug

Brown / BeigeRunner77 x 211 cm

Bokhara rugs trace their design roots back to the ancient Silk Road trading hub of Bukhara in Central Asia, where nomadic and village weavers developed distinct geometric patterns. Over generations, the tradition migrated southward, and today some of the finest examples of the style are crafted by skilled artisans in Pakistan.

The 2ply designation refers to a traditional construction method where the pile is woven using two strands of wool twisted together. This technique produces a denser, more resilient, and lustrous pile compared to single-ply variations, helping the rug retain its appearance and durability.

The visual language of this tradition centers around repeating geometric motifs arranged in orderly rows across the field, framed by structured borders. While traditional Bokhara designs often favor deep red tones, this particular piece features a striking beige field that offers a softer, lighter interpretation of the classic aesthetic.

Rugs from this tradition are valued by collectors and homeowners for their blend of cultural heritage and structural longevity. Owning one means welcoming a piece of living craft history into your home, backed by generations of weaving expertise.

This rug is entirely handmade through traditional hand-knotted techniques, a craft that demands exceptional patience and steady hands from skilled artisans in Pakistan.

With a density of 250,000 knots per m2 across its 211 x 77 cm dimensions, artisans hand-placed approximately 4 million individual knots. Completing a piece of this scale requires months of dedicated labor, ensuring a level of structural integrity and pattern clarity that machines simply cannot match.

Weighing 4.1 kg, the substantial construction reflects the heavy investment of material and time required to build a dense, enduring foundation that will remain a reliable part of your home for a long time.
