Bokhara 2plyHand KnottedRug

Dark red / BlackRunner77 x 210 cm

Bokhara rugs take their name from the ancient Silk Road trading hub of Bukhara in Central Asia, where nomadic and village weavers developed and refined these distinctive patterns. Over generations, the tradition migrated southward into Pakistan, where local artisans embraced and perfected the craft, maintaining the meticulous standards that define these classic pieces today.

The designation 2ply refers to the construction of the yarn, where two individual strands of wool are twisted together before being knotted into the pile. This two-ply technique produces a denser, heavier, and more lustrous surface compared to single-ply yarns, directly contributing to the rug's long-lasting durability and rich texture.

The visual language of this tradition is centered around the repeated gul motif, an octagonal medallion that historically symbolized the stamp of different tribal clans. Enclosed by orderly geometric borders, these motifs create a harmonious rhythm across the rich red field, embodying a design heritage that has endured for centuries.

Rugs from this lineage are deeply valued by collectors and homeowners alike for their blend of durability and timeless visual appeal. Owning a piece of this tradition means welcoming a tangible link to generations of textile artistry and human skill into your living space.

This runner is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans who tie each knot individually onto the foundation, a meticulous process requiring months of focused human labor and deep craft knowledge. The substantial 4 kg weight reflects the high density of materials packed into its 210 x 77 cm dimensions.

Achieving a knot density of 250,000 knots per m2 demands immense precision and steady hands from the weaver. This careful placement ensures the sharp definition of the traditional motifs and creates a remarkably durable pile that will support daily family life for years.
