Dark red / Brown110 x 155 cm

Bidjar rugs hail from the Kurdish region of the Middle East, a mountainous area known for its resilient and distinct weaving traditions. These rugs are often referred to as the iron rugs of the region, a testament to their legendary durability and the solid, heavy construction that defines the category.

The term Bidjar refers to a specific style of weaving that is famous for its compact, heavy foundation. This unique construction method creates a pile so dense that it feels exceptionally firm and robust, which is why these pieces are celebrated for their ability to withstand decades of heavy use while retaining their structural integrity.

Visually, Bidjar rugs are known for their sophisticated and often intricate floral motifs. While they draw inspiration from traditional garden designs, they frequently incorporate bold, geometric interpretations that make the patterns stand out. The borders are typically wide and highly detailed, framing the central field with precision.

Owning a Bidjar rug is an investment in cultural heritage and long-lasting skill. Collectors value these pieces not only for their striking beauty but for the immense effort required to produce them. They represent a bridge between ancient techniques and modern home comfort, offering a sense of permanence that is rare in today’s world.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and precision from skilled artisans. Each individual knot is tied by hand, resulting in a dense, robust structure that is far more durable than mass-produced alternatives.

With a total area of approximately 1.7 m2 and a weight of 8.2 kg, this rug features a heavy, dense construction that speaks to the quality of the materials used. The significant weight is a direct result of the high-density knotting, which ensures the rug lies flat and maintains its shape over time.

The sheer time and human effort involved in hand-knotting a piece of this size are substantial. Every detail in the intricate floral design is the result of thousands of intentional movements, ensuring a level of sharpness and durability that only handmade items can achieve.
