Step onto the inviting surface of this authentic Afghan Berber rug and experience the natural softness of 100% wool beneath your feet. With a comfortable 10 mm pile, it delivers a cosy, welcoming feel while naturally helping to absorb sound and insulate your living space against cold floors.

The rich tactile texture of the wool creates a comforting underfoot experience that makes any room feel instantly more grounded and lived-in. Its tactile depth brings both visual and physical comfort to your daily routines, whether you place it in a quiet reading nook or a busy hallway.

Crafted as a truly one-of-a-kind piece, this rug carries a distinct personality shaped by traditional artistry. No two creations are identical, and because this exact combination of design and craft will never be made again, owning it means welcoming a genuinely individual story into your home.

Originating from Afghanistan, this rug reflects a rich heritage of handmade floor coverings designed to last for years to come. The natural material breathes easily and responds well to everyday living, offering a reliable, beautiful foundation that anchors your interior with quiet confidence.

Berber rugs originate from the indigenous communities of North Africa and Central Asia, where weaving traditions developed as a practical necessity for nomadic and village life. Over generations, these utilitarian craft methods travelled along ancient trade routes, evolving into distinct regional styles that adapt traditional symbolism into contemporary living spaces.

The hand-knotted construction method relies on securing individual strands of yarn to the foundation warp and weft threads, a technique that requires precise tension and rhythmic skill. This time-honoured process produces a dense, durable pile that protects against cold stone and earth floors while retaining natural flexibility and softness.

Known for their expressive visual language, Berber traditions often incorporate symbolic geometric motifs, organic lines, and spontaneous colour placements that reflect the weaver's personal environment. Each composition tells a subtle visual story, using varied tones and contrasting symbols to create depth without relying on rigid symmetry.

Collecting a traditional hand-knotted rug connects your living space to centuries of textile heritage and human skill. Owning such a piece means preserving artisanal techniques that resist mass production, bringing genuine cultural weight and enduring craft quality into your daily surroundings.

This rug is entirely handmade through traditional hand-knotted techniques by skilled artisans whose knowledge has been passed down through generations. Crafting a piece of this scale requires immense patience, steady hands, and countless hours of careful labour to tie each individual knot by hand.

Featuring a knot density of 40,000 knots per m2, the construction balances fine pattern clarity with a durable, resilient pile. This density is significant because it provides a tighter weave that prevents the rug from losing its shape, ensuring the wool fibres stand strong against daily wear while holding their structure over years of use.

Weighing 4.5 kg across a 146 x 77 cm frame, the substantial weight reflects the dense packing of materials and the rigorous effort invested in the weaving process. This careful density provides the rug with a stable, flat drape that settles securely on your floor.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
